I’m a small business, why do I need Pinterest?

A common question I am asked, the answer is always the same. Why wouldn’t you want to be on Pinterest? First of all its free, yes that’s right free. It’s a great way to advertise your business and show off your products.

How does Pinterest work?

Pinterest is a lovely tool as it works a lot like Google images. Users type in what they are looking for such as “Storage ideas”, then Pinterest searches through the database showing you pins that match your search. As 90% of the information your brain receives is visual, this tool is a great way to get your creative juices flowing and can become very addictive.

How can that benefit you?

You would be amazed at what people love to pin! No matter what your business is there is someone who wants to share/buy your product. What do I need to get started?

Here are my top tips on getting started on Pinterest,

Make sure you have great images that truly show off your products. If you have a shop that just sells light bulbs, get creative! Make sure they are the best looking light bulbs, don’t just display them in the boxes. Thinking outside of the box is the best way to gain followers.

Use Pinterest search to gain ideas of what sells and what does not, it is a great way to find out what people like and dislike. If your pins aren’t getting shared as much as you hoped then find out why, type the product into the search and see what others are doing.Banner5

Make sure your images are taken from your website and this will help to push traffic your way. Creating backlinks to your site is a great way to boosts your internet presence. Plus if you have fabulous photographs why wouldn’t you want them on your website?

Use Pinterest like a customer. Think about your customers, what they like and don’t like. Then create thematic boards, pinning what your customers are interested in. The best way to do this is to think about what you would buy with your products, or how else they could be used. Remember the light bulb shop? Well I would set up a board of things you could use the light bulbs for when they have blown – such as a herb pot.
