Do you want your brand to have a good online presence? Besides a good product or service, you need to have quality social media profiles and actively engage with your audience.

Brands use social media profiles for various reasons from getting more online exposure, connecting with fans or customers to improving their online reputation. Whichever way you look at it, social networking is key to success in today’s online driven world. Without social media, some may say you don’t exist!

The Importance Of Quality Social Media Profiles

As of December 2019, there were 3.725 billion active social media users with each person having an average of 7.6 social media accounts. Even more staggering is that Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp handle 60 billion messages per day (source: brandwatch.com).

With numbers like these, you simply cannot ignore social media regardless of your business type. Good quality social media pages can make a massive impact on SEO. In some cases, social media profiles are the first thing that appears in Google search results.

The sooner you treat your social media profiles like landing pages for your brand, the better. Remember, your social media account is often the first thing people encounter and you need to make a good impression. Here are some of the key ingredients to creating successful social media pages.

1. Have The Same Profile Photo On All Social Media Profiles

While a fun, controversial photo may be fine for your personal social media profile, it’s not the case for your business. A profile photo is the main photo that represents your company and it’s often a company logo. However, it can also be a professional picture of you if you are the brand.

This small photo is also the picture that appears when you comment so it’s important to keep your profile the same. Not only is it more professional but it makes it easier for people to recognise you on any social media platform.

The point of using the same photo is that you want people to see your page or comments and immediately know that it’s your company. With the massive number of social media users, you need to make sure that your business is easy to find and interact with.

2. Use Simple, Easily Recognisable Social Media Names

Your brand should have the same name on all your social media profiles but remember that some platforms have character limits. If you have a long name and can’t use the exact wording, you may have to flexible in your choice. Whatever you decide to use, make sure the name is as close as possible on all platforms.

Don’t get overly creative as you can with a personal profile and just keep it simple. After all, you want people to find you and your company as quickly as possible and using the same name everywhere will help.

If you already used a silly name, you can usually change it but some platforms may be limited. While you can edit your username on Facebook, the new name must be similar to the one you had before and they must approve the name change before it takes effect.

3. Spruce Up The “About” Section

As you would on your website, creating a good “About section” is also important on social media. The first thing you should do is to make sure that all the information is accurate. Check that your hours are correct, address, contact numbers and email address.

Once you have checked all the factual information, it’s time to work on the wording. This part is particularly important as you need to tell people about your company and what you do. Instead of just listing your products or services, write about ways in which you can (or have) helped solve your customers’ problems.

In the most basic of forms, you should focus “less on the company” and “more on your customers”. This means writing a short, but detailed blurb about what the business does and what you do for your customers.

4. Add Links To Your Social Media Profiles Wherever You Can

With so many people on social media, it’s become increasingly important to link your social media profiles to your website and vice versa. People search for you on mobile or desktop and by making it easy to find you and share your information social media, the better for your brand.

In addition to adding direct web links to your social media profiles from your website, we recommend adding social media sharing buttons to blog posts. This will lead to increased awareness and improved customer experience (CX).

The idea here is to make sure people can find your pages as quickly as possible. So think of everything you do in your business and where you can add links to your social media pages. More places to add links include your business card, newsletters and email signature.

Top Tip:

Social media channels have high web authority. This means any links on social media are considered higher-quality links. Even a brand new Twitter or Facebook page often rank well because of their overall web authority.

5. Find Inspiration From Other Social Media Profiles

Everyone wants to be successful and while you should never copy your competitors or other people, there’s nothing wrong with finding inspiration and doing something similar. Spend some time looking at social media pages, especially those with a large following. Browse through their pages, read some of their posts and see what they do well to justify their online success.

You can look at social media accounts in the same industry as yours or something completely unrelated. You can even compare notes about certain social media accounts that you love for whatever reason. The idea here is to see how they do the following:

  • How and what are they posting?
  • How are they talking about their products?
  • What do they do to connect with their audience?
  • What draws you most to their social media page?

6. Make Real-Life Connections By Posting Something Personal

The point of social media is to connect with people so spend some time and get to know the people on your page. One idea is to post a photo of your messy desk and give some insight into how your day is going. You could also go LIVE and share something interesting about a trending news story or something you feel passionate about.

The point of this is to be open, honest and genuine, giving your audience the chance to connect with you on a personal level. Another way you could do this is by simply creating a post that shows that you care about them. Say thanks for their support and be sure to mention them in the post.
